    Ingredients

  • Cheddar and Green Onion scones in a white bowl with a red and white stripe kitchen towel. A small bowl of butter on the side and on top of a cutting board.

Ingredients

  • SCONES
  • 2 ¾ cups all purpose flour, plus more for kneading
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¾ cup cold butter, cut into cubes
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup sharp Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions, both white and green parts
  • Softened butter, for serving
  • EGG WASH
  • 1 large egg and 1 Tbsp milk combined

Directions

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Line sheet tray with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the diced butter and cut in using a fork or pastry cutter until very crumbly. Combine the milk, egg, and green onions together in a separate small bowl and whisk to combine. Add to the butter and flour mixture and mix together quickly. Then fold in cheese until just combined.

Dust your work surface with flour and pat the dough into an 8 inch circle. Then slice into 6 wedges. Place on the parchment lined sheet tray and brush with egg wash.

Bake for 22-25 minutes until golden brown.
